I Was Raised by a Strong Woman

From the start, you were a strong woman

Putting the love of your life in the earth's womb

Then keeping the fruit of his loins inside yours

Despite people's opinions to abort him

You were a strong woman

Raising not only your newborn son but also your daughter

Filling the void that was made by an absent figure

Then you pushed through it and had me

I wouldn't be here if you weren't strong

Resilient to all the obstacles of life

The love that my heart holds wouldn't be present

The beauty I see in my life wouldn't be present

The happiness I experience every day wouldn't be present

Without you being a strong woman

No matter what happens I will always remember

You were my first love, my first teacher, and my first guide

Because you are a strong woman

And you inspire me to want to be one too
