I was there

I was there

When my brother was on the ground screaming

Saying the most profound things

Not able to get up

It was a Friday night

I had just arrived from a soccer game with my parents

Walked in from the side of the house

Because the front door was locked

From the knees up there was nothing to be seened

The curtain covered his body

I Feared the worst

Fearing that he was shot

Fearing that he was bleeding to death

Fearing that I could not help him at all

Opened that curtain and he had saliva all over his face

I asked him if he was okay but there was no response

Ran to the door screaming at my parents to come and help

They came in running and worried

Calling him by his nickname  “childin”

I was there when the police officer came and asked if he was on drugs

I was there when the ambulance came and took him to the hospital

I was there at home scared about life

Stayed home because I couldn't face reality

It was terrified

For so long I was not able to sleep

As my mind was just wondering all over the place

There’s days where i can’t sleep

And days where I am afraid to sleep because of nightmares

Nightmares sneaking up in my mind

Causing the fear to come back again

My nightmares just won’t go away

“Dulces suenos”

My parents would say before I went to bed

If only they were

I was there
