I was told

Location

Troy Michigan

I was told that i should follow the rules

I was told that i should play the game

I was told that i could sharpen my tools

I was told you and i are the same

I was told that i could not achieve

I was told that i was no longer a slave

I was told no thoughts should i conceive

I was told to dig my own grave

I was told to keep to myself

I was told to consider others feelings

I was told that i should share the wealth

I was told to watch out for the ceilings

I was told i was not important

I was told that i was the apple of their eye

I was told my view was distorted

I was told that some people at times will lie

I have been told to keep it under wraps

I have been told to watch where i step

I have been told my foundation will only collapse

I have been told that danger sleeps at my doorstep

I have been told to hold my tongue

I have been told to respect authority

I have been apart of those known as young

I am still hated by a majority

I was told that things will get better

I was told that life goes on

I was told that I could become a trendsetter

I was told some things are gone

What I was told made me who I was

But what am I now? I don't know so who does?

My Mom? My Dad?

My happiness stays trapped underneath an emotional scab

But that's the thing about scars

They may be permanent, but they don't stop you from moving on

So I walk

Because I was told that some of us can still reach the top
