I Wear the Mask

I wear the mask that beams and laughs It hides my wounds through countless crafts. Portraying a steeled image so people don’t mind, To not have the companion of pity at my hind. I wear the mask. Appearing smart and driven keeps the world going, So why upset the status quo with them knowing; Countless tears strive to fill the vacancy, Where my heart palpitates, O so fatally. I wear the mask. How I wish I could just show The afflicted, delicate figure trapped below. Moaning “Let me out, Let me be free.” But the world accepts no flaws and throws away the key. I wear the mask.
