I will be Held Up as an Example
The sky that once held me barred by a
Black nothing
Breaks and is now clear and shining.
A rainbow forms precisely above
My head, entirely and solely
Created by expert jewelers.
The seams of my hands, once
Marred now smiling,
Write wildly of all I’ve seen –
Of all that has happened.
Wet lead rushes. Words bubble and bolt off the page.
I, “instead of being doomed, will be
Held up as an example.”
My numbers and stripes will not determine my fate.
I decide and define my fate.
I stand alone,
But I am not lonely.
I will go forth from these
Bands and be held up as an example.
My days have been prolonged. Here is
My chance to prove to my
Creator that my life is
Worth living. And one day I will
Join the eagles in this clear
And shining sky, this sky
That once held me barred by a
Black nothing.
