I will never be You

I am a bird with broken wings,

told what to do by other broken things.

I am a girl with wings that are clipped,

censored words do fall from my lips.

I am a woman, ready to bloom.

But I cannot, for the conformists do loom.

I am a girl, ready for life.

They come for me,

threatening with knife.

With these wings,

from the ashes I rise.

With these wings,

my actions surprise.

With these wings,

love cannot reach.

With these wings,

life I beseech.

With these wings,

my choices are not mine.

With these wings,

Lord show me a sign.

With these wings,

my words, I do hide.

With these wings,

I will not survive.

With these wings,

I do what I'm told.

With these wings,

secrets untold.

I am a girl with broken wings,

told what to do by other broken things.
