"I Will Replace It"

Cautious hands reach out
“Be gentle!” I scold
This is too scary, a risk i can’t take.

I retract my offering

“I promise” he says.

They always make impossible promises
that end with insincere apologies.

He lost it.
He dropped it.
He cracked it.
Oops, he broke it.
He’s sorry, he’ll fix it!

But once it is damaged, there’s no going back.
Just hope that the damage is small, not big enough to really truly hurt.
But it always hurts.

“I’ll never let it go” he swears
but I’m not willing to part

because i’ve been played before and i learned that you dont give away.
Not until you have heard those words they’re supposed to say.

“I will replace it”

Young and naive we give out our HEART
and never get one to replace that spot.
Just know that you shouldnt take
if you arent ready to give.
