I Wish
I held my breath for a word
A whisper
A moment to call my own
A point in time where I alone
Was to share in your deepest thoughts
I waited so I can storm the walls
Slip through what is left of your defenses
To be able to see
The light beneath the storm
If I could just understand
The spaces between your words
Learn the rhythms of your joy
The foundation of your pain
Then I could master this equation
And would no longer need to rely
On the expressions from your many faces
All those hopefully moments
Wasted
Un-winded like a clock
Hours passing by
We disperse into our separatism
Losing ourselves to language
Once again
Walls of words too thick to untangle
We play the ritual
The rehearsed robots
Formal roles and empty dialogue
A polite nod
An expected smile
Sharing nothing that is you
Nothing that is me
We clutch our pain
Hide our joy
Forgetting that we are free to express our emotions
But I still clutch onto that hope
Of a single whisper
