I wish I told you I love you
I wish I told you I'd be there for you
At least
Make you believe it
Because
I never told you about how we'd forget about each other
But I'm no fortune teller
I left
I'm sorry
I loved you
And I told you not to forget
But you did
And I forgot to refresh your memory
Like the same plain water you drink
Drank
I forgot
Did you keep up those old habits?
Like picking your nails when you were nervous
Or when your ribcage expanded
You'd trace the gaps in between the bone
Skipping the hills in your soft skin
I forget
Do you still whisper into your pillow secrets?
Do you still wish upon stars?
Do I fill your mind sometimes?
Underneath the moon
Or spread across the stars
Where you can connect them and draw pictures of my face
Wait
I still remember
Didn't you want to leave this place?
Touch the heavens
And feel your cold fingertips get warm again?
I keep those memories in my head
Yet I can't make out who you are
But I'll wish upon a star one day
Maybe the ones that you trace
Or kiss at night
But I'll wish upon one
And I'll ask for it to be a messenger through space and time
To tell you I love you when poetry runs out of rhymes
It's a wish I'll make
Even if it's the only wish I can make
So when it comes true
I'll know I told you I loved you
