I Woke Up Like This

I am a flawless,

Ever changing,

Work of art.

I live my life differently

Than others.

  Words are chosen more carefully

When the sentence forming

Is a ballad.

Steps become more graceful

When a walk up the stairs

Is a waltz.

A closet is filled more cautiously

When the hangers

Hold dollops of paint.

And dressing is done

With the consciousness

That one’s body is a canvass.

I am flawless

Because with every word,

I sing a song.

With every step,

I dance a jig.

And with every breath,

I am breathing life

Into something new,

And beautiful,

And flawless.
