I woke up like dis

We sing along to songs in my car

Songs of love, songs of how a certain someone broke your heart

Then, if we're lucky a song of empowerment will come on

It will make us roll the windows down, and turn the volume up

It will drown out everything we've ever felt for a moment of bliss

Then again a song of heart break comes on and I lower the volume back down

My friends are quiet, they know I'm thinking of you

My best friend, Grace, goes to change the station

I reassure her that it's just a song

But I remember how you broke me, I remember how I let her break me

I recall those closeted times when I hated myself

I knew of nothing but you

The girl who was always around yet never quite mine

Deep down I miss you, but I knew I had to let you go

I grew to love myself for my heart, my body, and my soul

I thought I could never love someone as much as you until I found myself

Struggling with every image until I found my own

I go to turn the volume up and this time I will sing loudly leaving behind my quivering voice to become the queen I am

Because I know now that I am flawless without you and I deserve so much more than your selfishness
