I Wonder
Some days I wonder what the future will be like.
What animals will still exist,
And what will be extinct?
I wonder what our ocean will be like,
What animals will humans still eat?
Will there still be forests?
Will there even be trees?
How many people will be homeless?
What will healthcare be like?
Will there be pandemics?
Will labour be safer?
Will babies still die?
And other days,
I see kids,
The future generation.
I see them play,
Laugh,
Cry.
Invent,
Collaborate,
Discover.
And I don’t know what to feel.
Fear, because we’ve ruined their future.
Hope, because they seem so smart.
Sadness, because they might never see a platypus.
Maybe all of the above.
Because some days I wonder what the future will be like,
And on those days, I grieve.
