I wont be you
Do you not get it? Do you not understand that you're not just hurting yourself, you're hurting everyone around you, especially me. Your kid, your princess, your only child. Remember when I used to be daddy's little girl? Remember all of our secret bike rides and how you would let me ride in the front seat even though mom would get mad? Remember how we would make cinnamon buns and watch the Simpson's? Im sure you dont remember. You dont remember because now everything has changed, everything is backwards. You're supposed to be raising me, instead I am raising you. You're supposed to keep me from getting in trouble, but instead I have to take away your keys so that you don't drive drunk. You're supposed to be the one who worries, but No, I'm the one who can't sleep at night because I'm worried you'll get liver failure, drive durnk and kill yourself, or worse, kill someone else. And then, and then you blame me! How could you put this on me? I mean I've always tried to be perfect. I tried to be perfect so that you would stop. I got good grades, I went to church, I joined sports. I did everything I could so that you would change, so that you would at least listen to me. I thought if I could just make you proud of me then you would quit, you would be different and I would get you back. Then somehow, after all that, it is still my fault. You know what though, I am done. I am done feeling sorry for you. I am done running to your rescue. Most importantly, I am done listening to you and thinking that I am the one who makes you drink. You are an adult, and it is time we get things straight. I know I didn't cause this, I know I can't change this. This is on you, but I can do something. I can make sure I don't put my children through the same thing. I can make sure that I dont become you; I will not be you, I won't be an alcoholic.
