I Would Change Orange
2/5/2014
If I could change one thing...
While walking through an orchard's dream
And noticing a fruit, ripe, it seemed
I'd force the world to submit and see
The delicate beauty of an old orange tree.
There aren't many sights to see
According to this society
Yet, to me, I think there's a lot to be
Unearthed from the idiosycracies.
An orange is round and quiet
It really says not much at all.
And yet its bold coat of color
Speaks for itself through a wall
Of people who are not listening!
Have you ever taken for notice or granted
The pleasantness of an orange
Its miracles, its transformations, its mysterious placement
Right here, not there, on this orange tree
Why is it not to the left or right
No more than an inch up or down
Or rotated, or smaller, or larger yet,
Its position is so profound!
Its pores are like connect-the-dots
Not one too far away
That all come together
And y'all have a never
Taken a notice to date!
And its leaves are ever so fond
Of the fruit, and caress
It like a lover with
Its fine green, veined cover.
Its shape is peculiar but oh so similar
To any other of its kind.
So today, I challenge you all
Change your eyes or your glasses
And go out and look at that orange tree.
And tell me...
What is it that you think?
Do you see just an orange?
Or is there something deeper?
Do you see a student or a poet?
Do you see a thousand newspapers?
Or... Do you see what I see in an old orange tree?
