I Would End the Monster in Juarez

I want to end the suffering in Juarez

The mourning women howl at the moon

Longing to be reunited with their daughters,

Sisters, wives, and friends.

They shed tears not just because they are sad,

But because they are in rage

That everyone treats their situation so lightly.

Because they are grateful of every moment

They got to spend with their beautiful daughters.

Because they still hope that one day,

Their daughters will march into their homes

And everything will be return to normal.

Because they want revenge,

That this one showed up with missing breasts,

While that one had so many bruises

You’d swear purple is her true skin color.

But that one, that one was never found at all.

I would make those responsible face the hints

Of desperation in the family’s lives

That grows more powerful with each passing minute,

With each fading memory of their daughters.

Their hearts grows colder with every missing woman,

Which by now is over a thousand.

I would end the gluttonous monsters,

That feed on the misery of thousands of families

To nurture their riches and power.

While the number of missing rises, so does their income.

I want to bring the ghosts of thousands’ of women

that are never seen or heard

but never undetected by Juarez

to peace.

If I could change one thing,

I would end the monster in Juarez.
