I would like you to know

Now as a start to this piece of writing that I will convey to you That may be for you a story, or a lesson or just another poem There is the soul of my friend, a friend who is living through this hopeless existence I'm just another person another person trying to abolish this cruelty another person telling a story another person standing in vain, wasting her voice, for it to be finally heard He always mentioned they're my friends, my mates, my buddies Never did he mention they were lying, teasing, replacing him to another, that looked just right according to them Never did he mention they exclude him, be rude to him, because of what, that he was an African? Never did he mention, his pain, his pain felt since he was a little boy I too had pain I too thought myself to be strong, like a knight, or like a warrior I thought, I thought, I thought But I also did I fought, not with swords and weapons I fought through my face, my Indian identity, my personal weapons I let, my self-esteem ponder above me in hope to never bring it down, like my emotions When a passing by girl, told me to go back to my country, as if it were some genuine promotion Did you ever know he experienced it, did you ever know that his young self wanted to play with toys Some cars, some blocks, some little objects of joy He did, that young one, not knowing the ruthless world Not knowing that whatever he played with was thrown away But knowing that sometimes his birthday wish to be that he was not in this world, just away He said I would like to Apologise that I didn't support you Oh yeah sorry, I didn't play like you Oh sorry, I didn't swear like you Sorry, I didn't glare at those people like you But, Not sorry for not being like you He too wished to have kids one day And he said to me When I have kids I will teach my sons, and daughters to overcome the fear of being black I will teach them to get up like the sun every day Rise and give every being the source of life it needs and leave coolness and calamity when they set in the depths of darkness and be hidden away by clouds, by people I will teach them that life is not just about who’s Dark and whose Light Because… YOU need the dark night to show the light of the bright stars Because… YOU need unity to become a strong community Because… YOU need to be a human, in order to become humane He went to the park one day Seeing some guys to ask if he could play But they said f off, because he was black And then he knew life was really a dangerous track He hiked upon the hill of life Wanting to hold a rifle On his head full of freight Wondering if he will ever be able to live right Because he slowly lost might Now i said to him Black and white was times of the past, where everything viewed was through those shades Black and white was the times where people were living in the 17th and 18th century in a dark phase Colour is the time of now, where we live, in a bright phase To raise To raise Black and the white As a union against cruel might He said How can I be real, when the world cannot feel That I'm a human, carrying this weight of fear, and anxiety Wondering whether I'll be here when the sun rises for them to say 'keep fighting' The tears have dried up and so has my positivity I yearn for a change, that may not be happening
