I Write
because I have to—because
the harmonious voices of characters sing
in my head, begging for their lives
to be spilled into an abyss of words
on paper, the net that captures it all.
I write to practice the power that
I have been given, to satisfy that
need in my soul, to prove everyone
wrong. I write to share a piece of me
and a piece of my family, my friends,
my life, the life of another world. I write
because I have friends who believe
in me, who love that I fight, with paper
and pen, to show that I can and will
become an author no matter how long
it takes. I write so that I can swim happily
in the sea of words that create fantastic
places and creatures, so that my parents
will understand my dreams and hopes and
fears, so that they will learn that they cannot
sway me so easily. I write about toys that come
to life for Film, monsters who haunt innocent
people for English Gothic Fiction, numbers that
dance and confuse in the minds of humans for
Math. I wish to write for a living because writing is
my merry home, my wild imagination, and my beating heart.
