I Write
I write for my mother
For the tears she’s cried and the things she’s seen in life
I write for those times where life seems like nothing more than strife.
I write for the father that never seemed to care
And for those fathers who knew shopping sprees is not a symbol of being there
I write for those boys in the hood
You know the ones who rock the baggy shorts
And dream of stardom on shiny hardwood courts
I write for those girls who fell for him
Oh yes his eyes shined and glittered
But remember mama taught you everything that glitters aint gold
He will take everything that you own, he thinks his rightfully his but you feel as though you have been sold
I write for my sister who is my spitting image
For those boys who stand in the line of scrimmage
I write for Dr.King who had a dream
That one day we would all stop fighting each other and be on the same team
I write for the singers whose music makes us feel
For those parents who have to pray for their next meal
I write for the lives going downhill
For every person who has a gun and thinks the only way to live is to kill
I write for anyone who has ever had to fight
For the rape victims who cry themselves to sleep at night
I write for my grandmother who never passed the sixth grade
And for those woman who will never be good enough but to be someone’s maid
I write for those mothers who have sons
Remember you are his first love
And disrespected you might be but remember he was your gift from above
I write for anyone who has ever felt alone
And for those 10 year old girls who think they are grown
I write for myself
For my fears, dreams, and insecurity
And for those “adults” who haven’t even reached maturity
I write for those who have lost
That they will some day know victory
Because life is more than a conspiracy
But last but not least, I write for you
That this world doesn’t crush you and to yourself you will always stay true
I write because it’s what makes my world spin
You can look at me as a loser but when I write I always win.
