I Write

I write

            because it’s better to pour romantic feelings into a poem

            than confide in a potential backstabber.

I write

            because it’s better to rant in a poem about my anguish

            than take it out on myself.

I write

            because it is better to dwell on honest poetry

            than only live within the restrictions of prose.

I write

            because I realize that a poem

            is a song waiting to be given a tune.

I write

            because God

            and Nature

            and Love

            and Friendship

            and Music

            and Art

            all inspire me.

I write

            because even while I’m isolated,

            a poem helps me remember that my spirit is kindred to

            everyone else’s.
