i write because

I write because when I scream

my words fall out of my throat like angry gasps

I write because when I dance

my hands become intertwined with vibrations and words i cannot understand

I write because when I sing

i sound as if i'm being choked by the notes that sting to come out

I write because when I paint

the colors turn into a gray gloop stroked by a nervous hand on the wrong canvas

But when I write I fill every corner with freedom, and even the scratch marks find a home snuggled with slanted words on the small pad and smeared lines
