I write because...

I write because I am prideful. I think I matter in a world of over 7 billion people.

I write because I am thoughtful. Outrageous thoughts and ideas come to me while i try to sleep.

I write because I want others to know. Writing is communicating with people i will never meet, people from different nations, times, and ways of life. These words that I write, these 26 letters arranged in a different way tell people my thoughts, and hopefully engage their minds.

I write because I am human. Art makes us human. We put time and effort into something that, in the end, has no purpose. Art doesn't help us survive, it doesn't increase our chances of producing offspring, furthering evolution. It doesn't protect us from cold, hunger, thirst, or death. Art, the fruit of our labor, is fruitless. But this usleness is the most useful thing about it. The fact that we put effort into this thing of beauty, make us more human than having 23 pairs of chromosomes, or being the smartest animal alive ever can. 

I write because I love to write.
