I write because...

To write or not to write I write because it expresses freedom From the pain and also gives words of wisdom It alleviates agony Tells what is happening And allows me to say what I am feeling I wrote my first poem a long time ago A time that dates back to 14 years ago I wrote about nature, The smells and the feel About the birds and the trees And how I wish I could fly And how I wish I could be As time went on, I wrote more poems, And found that it felt like me And wrote more seriously About my life, The past, present, and future The hard times that others had to endure The good times and the strife I grew to learn that I love to write Because I can And I write for those who wish to have a voice And for those who never had a choice And a chance to say what they feel, To say what is on the mind And that is why I write Because it is right
