I Write to my Hands

Dear Hands,

Yes, I’m writing to the both of you.

You’re the only hands I’ve ever had,

And you’re the only hands I’ll ever get.

Yet the only hands I ever note

Are rarely mine.

And so,

This is me finally thanking you.
You make my words come alive.
You are how I make art and music.
You let me feel the world.
I thank you.

Of course,

You’re certainly not perfect.

There are so many times I wish

You would, when a crowd watches,

Refrain from senseless shaking.

Would you, please?

Then again,

I am far from perfect as well.

So, this letter is also an apology

For those times I carelessly hurt you,

Burned, pinched, or jammed you.

I am sorry.

Us together,

We make a great team.

You are invaluable to me.

Maybe I fail to treat you so,

But I swear it is true.

I love you.
