I Write to Set Sail
Why do I spend countless nights
writing copious amounts of poetry
trying to ascertain
the hows and whys
of never ending cruelty?
It's the only method to alleviate
the predetermined insanity
caused by the simple fact
that all my acquaintances now consider me the enemy.
My love,
you and writing saved me.
Soon we will be off;
you will be setting sail on distant seas
as I take one hesitant step after another amidst the mass population of the city.
Poetry
closes the distance.
You firmly grasped my hand as we stepped outside the rose-colored glasses
and the arctic stares of those who oppose us.
We once broke bread with these souls.
To them
we are changed.
Abominations.
Leviticus.
1st Corinthians.
We are every parent's worst nightmare.
So they think,
but we know better.
We know love
in its most truthful, pure form.
I know poetry
it holds me and wipes my tears
as I discover your abundant beauty as well as the
abundant ugly you must go through
all on account
of strong will caressing stronger love.
You're mine
and that's why I write.
My soul resides in each word
that falls from your lips
from my lips
from our lips.
To write is to capture
to alleviate the pain
and to replace it with elegance.
