Like Icarus
Three cheers to sleepless nights
And poetic flights of fancy.
They carry me far
From where the sightless dreamers care to go,
Who cry out that it was all because
The beggar who dare not love,
One night...
Dared.
Ah, sights that marvel,
Experience which dwindles down
To a neverending parade of clowns and liars
Who sit on thrones of despair and solitude
Pointing fingers and shouting names.
What would I give for a moment of peace,
An hour of wakefulness in this forsaken world?
The answer remains
As elusive as the tendrils of sleep
That cower before the nightmares
Which the reality of living bears,
Hoisted on the shoulders of
Forget-me-nots and gratitude,
And of the potential waste that comes from
A system of denial and repetition
Turning our bearings northward
Towards the heaven our eyes seek,
But reason denies, as heart grows weak.
