The Ice of Night

As darkness falls, the cool sets in. The sound of the silence, the whoosh of the wind; I know nothing but the dawn, Will set this heart free once again. The ice of solemnity cuts to the bone. Through the layers of frost, The longing for home, Must come at what cost? Darkness abounds, all through the night. Stars the only points of reason and of light. Where can one go when all light’s been extinguished? When one’s suffered torture, heartache, betrayal, and treason? If the past rings true, There must come a new start, For it will take more than fire and ice, To mend this broken heart.
