I'd Rather Be Awake Than Dead

Dawn has never been my muse

Though my spring to her may disagree

A slumber sweet and succulent

Brings unwanted tendencies

To wake I must for day has come

A friend or foe she be

A warm embrace that lights my path

Towards another night of sleep

I rise because the sun does

Though no one tells it to

You are no better than the dead

If never wakening, you choose

Useless people toss and turn

And fight the morning cues

Dawn may not be my inspiration

Yet motivation, through and through

This poem is about:
Me
