Identification, Please...
I need to find my own I.D.,
Then I’d show the real Max Green!
I have tests and words from Maxwell Green,
But none that express just me.
Maxwell needs to pay for college.
Who is Max? They have no knowledge.
My ACT says “thirty-three,”
Yet I still need an identity.
They ask me time and time again
To tell them who I think I am.
But how am I supposed to tell
If they want Max or just Maxwell?
I can’t decide who I should be.
I can’t decide which me is me.
...
Maxwell has a G.P.A.,
And volunteers like every day.
I love to work and rarely play.
I’m your favorite morals--All on display!
Are you a Catholic? I love to pray!
LGBTQ? I’m like half-gay!
I’ll be any shade of grey you say.
(White males don’t stand out, anyway)
So please just point me the rightest way,
I’ll write an essay--and you’ll help me pay!
For this “freedom” that I get in May.
And I’ll find my identity another day…
…
But wait...
I’m wrong! I take it back!
I cannot lose my identification...
‘Cause
If the choice is Max or education,
I’ll take myself--no hesitation!
They may tell me I’m no good
But I’m still more than compensation.
It feels like me against my patience:
I’m often gripped by indignation.
So they gave me medication
For my odd configuration.
But even with my flaws and failures
I choose to face my truest terrors.
...
I have this anecdotal proof to
Show why keep myself aloof.
It’s to protect Max Green’s identity.
All I need is my own I.D.
