Idol

1 John 5:21 New English Translation (NET Bible)

21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Idol

Justify your feelings ... as these become your truth

without interfering ... you live like you want too.

You set your own standard ... accepting all you do

and now you rule your life ... and your idol is just “you”.

You lose the perception ... of what is wrong or right.

Standards set by self ... you defend with all your might.

You’ll accept only advice ... if it levels in your sight.

You’re on top of your own world ... like a vulture in flight.

You’ll descend on every carcass ... of the ones who hopelessly died.

You tear the flesh from the bone ... and that seems to be all right.

You know you deserve all you have ... in spite of helpless cries

for you have the will to take ... ignoring the marvel “Why”?
