If you can keep your distance when casually all those Expecting more coming dangerously close, If you can trust humanity when not quite all is right But be careful of how much "you" is given If you can wait patiently for the good things due you Or being turned about and still right way driven Or being hurt and don't give way to the pain And yet don't harden your heart nor stop love If you can hope and not make unwise choices If you can hear yourself think, block out all other voices If you can think of yourself And treat others the same If you can believe in your abilities and fail Or watch the things you gave your life for turn to rubble at your own short comings or at the hands of others If you can make something from nothing And risk your life for the welfare of others And yet lose your own battles And still never stop believing in the happily ever after If you can force yourself to carry on with the tedious tasks set ahead of you While others spit on your hard won medals And so hold on when there is nothing in you except that which says you're still worth something If you can talk about the hard stuff with those who need to know Or walk along the hard path to get to those who need you If neither can stop you from simply being yourself If all believe you but none blindly follow If you can convince those stubborn to see your logic You see the wrong in others and can tell them without offending Yours is the earth and everything that's in it and which- is more- you'll be a leader in which it is your duty to protect
