If by any chance

If by any chance everything was taken away from me and I was left with nothing, then that would be fine. Because I know that he will be there in sickness, in clever word play, in health, in a quiet movie theater crowd (laughing), in sweaty palms, in his perfect smile. And all I need is him. I know they say that love never lasts, and in the end it will leave you alone with nothing. But I also know 60th anniversaries, lost love letters of World War II, great-grandchildren, an organ donor, and a star in space named after a lover. So if by any chance that in the end I am left with nothing, then that would be fine. Because all I ever needed is right here next to me in sweaty palms.
