If Doors Opened and did not Close
what if you woke up one day
and opened your bedroom door
and passing through it to the hallway
could not close it anymore?
and the man you walked by on the corner
whose kind gaze you did meet
you could speak with twenty years from now
though you merely passed him on the street
what if when you packed your bag
and departed your home town
your high-school friend's embrace
meant she'd be with you fifty years from now?
and if a far away child looked up
and saw sunset when you saw sunrise
you could know the awe and bewilderment
that would be present in his eyes
what if human connectivity
were not so intangible a thing
but was warm and alive in all of us
and bound our hearts eternally?
