If I could

If I could I would

It would start with denial.

I would say you aren't the fire that burns in me.

You don't make my heart lurch forward

Like when you hit the brakes too hard.

If I could I would

Explain why falling scares me.

I could tease you, laugh with you

I could do anything.

But you are you

And I am just me.

I know I'm smart, and dorky.

You are the same, but you're quiet.

I'm loud and excited.

I can begin now.

Your light burns so hot and bright.

Your laugh echos in my heart

Skip another thump.

Your voice sings in my mind,

I could close my eyes and listen to you talk all day.

If I could begin I would

It would start with denial.
