IF I Could Change One Thing....

If I Could Change One Thing…

Last October, on a beautiful, fall day,

My grandparents were taken away.

They were on a church bus, along with sixteen others.

Only twelve came back to tell us the rest had gone no further.

Each year they enjoy a senior adult trip.

Just this once, I wish I had told them to skip.

That Tennessee highway took so many lives,

And there are no reasons why.

I’ve fought day and night,

Wishing I could have one more sight.

Heaven received many angels that day,

But two follow me now in a special way.

I wish I could make the pain die,

But I wasn’t allowed to say goodbye.

I can still see you when I close my eyes,

Why did you have to go?

I still have so much to show you.

After all the support you have given me,

I wish that you could see me,

So I can say one last time,

Thank you.

Time flies so fast,

I keep thinking about the past.

I love you with all my heart,

My memories of you will never part.
