If I Could Paint my Life in 15 Seconds
My life is a painting, the colors vivid and bright
With blue spattered across the canvas though red shining in the light
Green, purple, orange, yellow, speckled all over
Determined to be seen by the spectators beyond
All held by the small pigments working in harmony
While my hand furiously brushes the spaces left undone, sweeping and cleaning to perfection
Vividly depicting the complexity, yet balance of the human mind
To find a small little boy, creeping a shrewd smile from the corner of his mouth.
His eyes are brown, sparkling with youth, naive but kind
His face lit by white tints, stuck in the everlasting effects of time
His hair is soft, wild and in all directions, each strand defining the glow of innocence
While his shirt, blinding red, the color of happiness and the color of blissful childhood
The boy is short, bright and playful, with his arms raised to the sun,
The sun which shone brightly on all that was not done.
The paper was partially colored but mostly white and blank, waiting to be used to its fullness and length
To illustrate my life, special yet just unfolding, with new bold colors being streaked and dotted
My colors are blurred by the shadow of society, but are blanketed by the warmth of self-worth
The lines are placed carefully, precisely balanced within the space
In which brightens the smile of my small overjoyed face
Eternally young, to forget of the trials of life
And remember the time of innocence and purity
When society could not hold us, and drag us to the pit of conformity
Where we could be ourselves, and nobody cared
About wear they sat, what they wore, or the friends they met with
About whether we were African, Chinese, Spanish, European,
Or whether we were fat, skinny, smart or confused
But now I look back at the work that has been born, in an age where time stood still,
I stand in momentous perfection, with no one that can stand against me.
Nothing is out of place and society is affectionate rather than judgmental;
I am equal, free from oppression, hidden from the evils of man
Though today I may wither or I die in this world of hierarchies and suffering
My painting is framed, protected and secure
My heart is fastened tightly to the idyllic memories so long ago
Where I am immortal. I am flawless.
