If I Could Write A Letter

If I could write a letter
Address it to myself
Take things down
Examine them
And put them on a shelf

I'd tell myself to cry sometimes
To let the anger out
To feel the hurt
That comes along
When people shut me out

I'd tell myself "Don't be discouraged;
The world is going to scream.
It wants you feeling
Down and out
As if you had no dream."

I'd tell myself, "You know the truth!
A dream can not be taken
Away from those
Who fight alone
Those dreams, they won't be shaken."

I'd say to take no second lightly
No day with out good cheer
No stone-cold memory
So dark and bleak
Should hold me down in fear.

I'd remind myself to cherish
The people standing strong
Who hold me close
Who wipe my eyes
Who help me to move on

If I could write a letter
Addressed mainly to me
I'd hope and pray
Another soul's pain
Would mend so easily
