If I Live Past Eighty-One, I Hope I’m Half As Cool As You

Dear loved one,

Your drawings were my favorite things

They were in an old sketchbook and they weren’t

really drawings, they were really just sketches

but I thought you were an artist

Your stories were my favorite things

They were the stories I’d heard a thousand times

but each time you told them I felt like I was in them too

Your kindness was my favorite thing

You showed everyone kindness

even if you didn’t like them

but now I try to be nice to the people that I don’t like

Your friendship was my favorite thing

We grew a bond that I can’t quite describe with a word

but now I am forever searching for that bond

that I won’t be able to describe with just a word

Your generosity was my favorite thing

You gave so much throughout your life

Now I’ll forever be trying to be half the person you were

but that seems to be impossible

Your encouragement was my favorite thing

You told me I could do anything and that nothing is impossible

‘That everything seems scary until you try it’

but this world without you seems pretty scary.

Your wittiness was my favorite thing

I could’ve wrote you a sappy poem

about all the good times we had

but I am not happy and you were never sappy

Pain was never my favorite thing

I thought I had felt pain before

however the pain you caused gave me oceans in my lungs

and suddenly I couldn’t breathe

Summer was your favorite thing

Our birthday’s are in the summer

a day apart to be exact

You hated winter

Your death date is now in the winter

February 27th 2016 to be exact

Love Always,

your pal.
