If I Really Loved You

Because I love you,

Don’t go with your friends tonight.

Because I love you,

Going out with them's not all right.

Because I love you,

I left bruises on your face.

Because I love you,

You cover up the trace.

Because I love you,

I’ll force on you a kiss.

Because I love you,

You won’t deny my wish.

Because I love you,

You have to be faithful.

Because I love you,

If I’m faithless, you can’t yell.

But none of this is really because I love you.

This is all because I love to control you.

If I loved you,

I'd hug you, not hit you.

If I loved you,

I’d make sure you said yes, too.

If I loved you,

There'd be no need for force.

If I loved you,

I'd stay the course.

If I really, truly loved you,

I’d never leave a bruise.

If I loved you,

I’d allow you to choose.
