If I were a bird

If I were a bird…

I’d fly down

And land on the head of a fierce lion

We’d become friends, and would travel the world together

Until we reached Brazil, where bananas are flavorful and flowers undertake their richest color. There, we’d come across our old friend Zulu, the spider monkey.

The master of spontaneity and wisdom.

We’d all get lost deep within the jungle, Zulu gliding from one vine to the next and lion chasing every deer in sight, and me, I’d be soaring above it all.

The people, the problems, the worries are all beneath me, and the feeling of surpassing all of this, makes me feel free.

If I were a bird, I’d soar down and with one giant swoop, lift both lion & Zulu up off the ground.

Solely to show them what I see,

A world teeming with endless possibilities.

I want them to feel what I feel,

Living life high, away from all the birdy bullshit

I want them to experience what it feels like to be free.

They both look up at me and nod.

Suddenly, my wings begin to weaken as Zulu and lion only grow heavier and heavier

Weighing me down to the ground, in which lies the truth

The truth I've been trying so DESPERATELY to escape from.

I struggle to flap my wings faster to catch myself from falling, but I can’t

I simply can’t.

Soon the delusion will fade, and this fantasy of life I once had will resurface itself back to the clouds, where it belongs.

As I descend closer and closer to this ground, I slowly begin to lose myself in my own fear and doubt.

“What if I can’t face the truth?” “How will I survive” “How could I ever believe I could fly..”

My feet touch the ground, I’ve lost my feathers and my ability to fly, I am now human.

Lion unveils himself as my Dad and Zulu transforms into my brother, Brendon.

They both look at me, smile

And say, “Find your happiness here”, then walk off into the abyss.
