If I were you
If I were you I would be just as mean
My heart cold and unfeeling
My words sharp, to leave you reeling
If I were you I would be just as mean
My thoughts unclean
My true feelings unseen
If I were you I would at least try
To learn, to understand, to find out why
To change, to grow, to laugh, to cry.
If I were you I would at least try
I can no longer stand idly by
As the best parts of you continue to die.
If I were you I would see that I was wrong
That I'd fallen victim to that siren song
That I ended up in places I didn't belong
If I were you I would see that I was wrong
That the devil had me at his pitchfork prong
That I was surrounded by people who can help me to be strong.
If I were you I would want to be me
I'm well liked and respected to a high degree
You are shackled, while I am free
If I were you I would want to be me
Your envy is quite easy to see
I have influence that branches like a tree
I do not wish to be you
I just want you to see
That there are many things you could do
Or you could finally start acting like me.
