If I'm Missing You
I am a series of songful words
that you’ve maybe never heard before,
some that you have,
some that may or may not have been made up,
and some that are in another language.
I am a somnambulist,
sleepwalking through life
like I’ve only ever been awake,
seeing and reaching for things
I should dare not.
I am the komorebi,
the light shining through the trees,
trying my hardest
to find a place
for my feet to hit the ground.
I am the petrichor,
the light after the darkness,
the smile after your sorrow,
the colour in a black and white photograph,
the smell after the rain.
I am lost in the goya,
lost in the words
that fill the pages
of my favourite books and novels,
because I’ve found a new reality.
I am the vellichor,
a venture into the unknown,
the feeling you get
as you find yourself lost
in a shop of used books.
And lastly,
I am using the eloquence
you find yourself replaying in your mind
when you’re missing me,
wondering if I’m missing you too.
But remember,
I am.
I always am.
I always have.
And I always will.
