If My Dad Never Worked at Nasdaq

Location

If my beloved father never started a career

that required so little family commitment,

I doubt I'd comprehend the meaning

of matieralism.

Two-hundred-fifty thousand a year

without a worry,

paying bills,

only not paying bills -

retail therapy.

Forget an iphone and that selfie,

you angled perfectly to hide your flaws

because that's what determines your success.

Let a photo be captured without a thought

of money,

perfection,

materialism.

Candid: the best type of photo

that embraces imperfections

because in the middle of media

and a quarter of a million salaries,

we're all looking for happiness in ourselves

yet we can't fucking find it when too much is too much.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
Our world
