If Myth Were More Modern

If myth were more modern I would make women rule. 

Why did Eve pick the apple and not crown Adam fool?

Women are only the ruination of all these cruel myths,

because men wrote these stories and made themselves king’s.

If I were the author of all of these stories, 

I would crown myself queen 

and give women some of the glory. 

Pandora wouldn’t open a box of evil and pain, but out of the box would spill love, peace, and free reign. 

Freya would be known more for war and of death, 

than just being another goddess of sex 

Hera wouldn’t just be the whinge on Olympus with ancient jealousy in her veins 

and punishment on her fingers.

If I were the author Morgan le Fay would be bigger than a witch who got more than a page.

Perhaps I am proud that Helen was so pretty 

she started a war and took down a city.

Perhaps Athena was smart and equally brave, but most of these women 

were struck with a different fate.

Persephone and Hela must stay downstairs. Medusa will kill you with just one stare. 

And all of these women were never heroes 

like the famous Beowolf or Achilles. 

They’re just goddesses or villains 

Regarded with fertility. 

If I were the author of all these myths 

I’d twist things around

I’d  make things more equal,

and make women proud.
