If Only

If only we all could perceive The blindness that lives underneath The darkness that lives inside That we so often try to hide but always seems to slide to the outside If only we all could catch That blindness before it hatches Into something that begins to define FIRST, one as a human SECOND, us as humankind If only we all could see What we are doing to you and me Allowing the darkness to seep through our pores And penetrate the minds, bodies, and souls Of any innocent bystander Who happens to clash with the wrath of our own blindness If only we all would believe That what we claim to be a problem of society Is rooted deep in the cavities Of the blindness that lives underneath
