If Only to Receive

If Only to Receive

As I walk through the well trod path, bright colors talk to me from the edge of the woods,

Petals small and smooth, lined with gentle creases so precisely laid-

Little petals bright with color, their faces bring me Joy;

The breeze catches the sweet scent and fills my nose with beautiful fragrances,

Heads lift to the sun for warmth, and the gray skies for a drink;

A day without color is not worth living.

Each day has highs and lows, with signs of glee and sorrow-

Yet, every flower sees the value in the sun, in the rain, and lifts

Its head to receive its blessings.

What lessons we can learn from the flowers.

They hold dear the rain, for it gives them waters of life

And the sun benefits their color by giving them an angelic glow.

If I could only find the joy in the rain first, so that I can

Find that Living Water in my soul-

Then, only then, will life have a heavenly hope.

That is what I cannot live without,

A flower’s lesson of receiving the Life.
