If only for today

It's a drought of emotions and yet a flood all the same

The words rain down, thudding the pavment of the mind over and over

A marathon a minute

A race with no winner

A nuess bound together by a few meager letters

Letters from words

Words from pain

Pain that forms into yet another stone on your ankle

Yet another pill in your palm

Another notch on your arm

Another, Another, Another

Meltdowns and rebuilds as though this was normal

Just another day in a chain of centuries

The unending stream

6 feet down and yet 20 feet up with no paddle, no way to fight the currents controling the mind

Suddenly, however,

There's a pause

The eye of the hurricane

Calm

Quiet

Safe

The words a whisper

The pills clatter to the floor

The knife is put away

The world is a little more bareable

If only for today

And because of today

Because of the hope for tomorrow

Because of the hope for a never ending eye

The mind, the heart

Remains

If only for today
