If The Slipper Fits

If the slipper fits, that's what they all say,

but nobody could have guessed I'd refuse to stay.

"Prince Charming's the answer to all of your worries,

just play along until the end of the story."

In a society where a woman needs a man to be happy,

that just complete blasphemy, wouldn't you have agreed?

Night after night of headaches and pain,

I had to just leave, or I'd go completely insane.

So now here I am, back at square one,

almost as if the story had never begun.

Goodbye to the castle, the gowns, the luxury,

but who would have guessed I'd be so full of glee?

Despite all the failure, all the things I have lost,

none of that matters, for now I am the boss.

My life is my own, not some mannequin on display,

“you’re ruining your life”, they still seem to say.

The glass slipper? The past has been all thrown away.

But don’t worry, Cinderella’s going to be just okay.
