If by Some Chance

If by some chance the stars aligned and left a spotlight on me. An interview question ringing through the back of my adolescent mind. What would you change?

If by some chance I were left staring into the eyes of every human being raising their hands screaming pick me!

If by some chance the weight of the world pushed against me until my breath became shallow as it read a long list of its wrongs. What would I change?

There is no fifty-fifty shot. I can't pluck crescent shaped petals from the center of a daisy to choke out the perfect answer.

When I have walked beside those who cry silently through smiles. When I have looked into the hollow eyes of a dark faced child who can't remember the last time that he ate. What would I change?

I would change the first thought on each persons' heart from selfishness to selflessness. So that they would not be shouting Give me more but begging Please take more from me.

So that a home built like a castle would not store ten empty rooms but instead tuck ten empty pockets under its silky sheets each night. So that each soldier would carry understanding in his right hand, compassion in his left and peace on his back.

So that no child will ever again hunger for food, knowledge or kindness. So that each tongue will reject hate and instead echoe love, love. So that a hand will be offered instead of ridicule. Truth would be the currency and a smile would never fade.

So ask me again "What would you change?"

Thats easy. I would change the world.

What would you change?
