If Streets Could Talk

If streets could talk
They would tell many stories
Of poverty and success
Giving more never less
Seeing the story of a woman through the way that she walks
With passion and aggression
Her losses and successes
The way that she was raised
With her long curly hair bouncing against her milk chocolate skin
Her piercing brown eyes yet gentle to those she cherished
Surviving through the day
She never strayed
She stayed on that path for another day
If streets could talk
They could tell the story of a child through the drawing of chalk
Becoming an inspiration through the way that they talk
Families would gather
Listening to stories in any type of weather
Sharing the joy of laughter from embracing their past
When cousin Jimmy asked Aunt Mabel for a dollar and he ended up getting her hand gripping his collar
Saying wen can i get the other five back
If only streets could talk
There may be a change in the way that people are portrayed
Telling the story of those who left and those who stayed
Those who are fighting the pain
Of the venom that is stained
On the streets
Of how children scavenge to eat
But if the streets could talk
They would talk about the doors that would open
Keeping the words spoken from the old to the young
Alive with a fire of history
About how many riots or rebellions that has occurred
Good deeds that has been unrecognized or unheard
While the police herd
Blacks, likes cattle to the slaughter
Stealing mothers from daughters
And fathers from sons
The heartache will still remain with the rising sun
Bringing to light the disfigured horrors that will stay embedded in your sight
If streets could talk
You would need to be immortal to listen to it all
To hear from the very beginning of evolution
From humanities birth from Mother Earth
And all that she has provided
For them to take their first step
But after those steps they began to run
And during all that running
Humanity trapped themselves within their vanity and greed calling it a basic need
The need for power
The need for authority
The need to establish a social class and calling the group they despise the minority
But within those ideals blood was spilt
The innocent killed and enslaved
Later given freedom but that was also delayed
Saying there is equality but no equal pay
If the streets could talk
You would need more than a million years to prepare yourself for what your abouut to hear
And if the streets can talk
Best believe your story will be added to the collection of history
