If There Were No Such Things As Thieves

If there were no such things as thieves
I would simply assume I lost my stuff
Yet there they are crawling around town
Making daily life unnecessarily tough

If there were no such things as thieves
I know what is lost can’t be found
Yet there they are crawling around town
Always claiming items unbound

If there were no such things as thieves
Thought of conspiracies wouldn’t exist in my mind
Yet there they are crawling around town
Causing my brain to go on a memory grind

If there were no such things as thieves
None of my hair would turn white
Yet there they are crawling around town
Making me look behind my shoulder in fright

If there were no such things as thieves
I would less likely doubt my sanity
Yet there they are crawling around town
Sneaking stuff from my room to suit their vanity

If there were no such things as thieves
Greed would weaken by the hour
Yet there they are crawling around town
Granting it an abundance of power

If there were no such things as thieves
I would never harm anyone in sight
Yet there they are crawling around town
Inciting a good excuse for a rampaging fight

If there were no such things as thieves
I would release a sigh of relief
Yet there they are crawling around town
Creeping even through the murkiest of reefs

If there were no such things as thieves
I would finally relax without stress
Yet there they are crawling around town
Never giving me a moment’s rest
